Question:

How reliable is a high mileage 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?

The jeep has 130,000 miles on it and it is a 99. The owner claims mostly highway miles (as they all do) and it seems it has been well maintained. Are there any Jeep Grand Cherokee Lmtd. owners that know if this is too high of mileage that it may have too many potential problems? The guy is selling it for 5,200, but said he'll sell it to me cheaper for 4,500 because I am in college and really want a Jeep. It does have a 6cyl. and I don't drive much so I know they're gas guzzlers. I am asking about mechanical issues that may arise in a Jeep with this high of mileage. Thanks.

  1. 130,000 is hard to say... my 2000 has 90,000 and it hasn't given me a single promblem in 4 years. but, i may just be lucky. take it to a mechanic or ask a friend that knows about cars to sniff around under the hood. if it's been maintained then you shouldn't have any problems.

i'd work on the price though.

  2. Sounds like a risky deal.

  3. Ouch.  If it has had just one owner and well-maintained, then that certainly is better.  But, the only vehicle I would personally gamble on with 130,000 miles would be a Toyota, Nissan, etc.  But......  if you bought it for $4,500 - you may want to be sure to have about $2,000 in the bank for any repairs that may come up.

  4. bro.....save your time and cash....you can buy a much better car for 4500. Find a buick with a 3800 motor thats in pretty good shape.I am involved in wholesale car auctions....i saw a good looking 2000 jeep sell for 675 about 2 weeks ago....good luck!

  5. I looked this up on kelly blue book with the options and mileage you listed....

    Condition  Value

    Excellent  $4,725

    Good     $4,215

    Fair     $3,565

So if it sounds like you'd be getting your value out of it...

130k is a lot of mileage but jeeps tend to do well on mileage
