Ok Im planning to take an 2008 Mustang GT to mexico.I plan to stay and visit my family for about a mouth. i found out u need to get a permit to drive USA cars into mexico ($32usd) in order to get that permit u need permission from the bank if u finance which a do with the car. In order to get permission u need mexican insurance ($200 a month) then u get permission from bank u show it to mexican embassy they'll give u a sticker that u put in the windshield. Now I thought that was it but no when u cross the border from Tucson arizona at the border u need to pay a $400 deposit not to mention also the $400 dollars gas bill one way; if u get back when u return "with the car" that if u return with the car u get ur $400 deposit back, I mean some one told me that it to risky to take that type of car to mexico because u got drug dealers that want to steal ur car by force "AK-47"

and then u think that the police would help u but no they want a cut too if they stop u and they will because u got California plates and they also want to steal ur car or give them money about $200 usually convince them to let u go. Then where Im going there is about 30 tolls i dont mean bridge's either i mean U know why they call Freeways freeways because it's free u don't get charge to use freeways in mexico u get charge $10 US dollars per toll and u think $5 is to much to pay when u cross the golden-gate bridge in SFO, or interstate there is a total of 30 where im heading. From northern cali to the part of mexico Guadalajara jalisco is 2.5 day drive depending on speed asuming u drive 85 which u wont because in mexico the roads are not as great so u will probly be pushing more like 60-73 MPH. so what is it that dangerous as it is or what?

  1. ya it is take the bus

  2. I wouldn't even consider it.  Rent a car once you're in Mexico.  Whatever it costs will be worth it.  Then again I'm not sure that I would drive through Mexico at this point.  They are having some serious (deadly) problems at the moment with the drug cartels.  Have you considered flying in?  It sounds like what you have planned is pretty expensive, flying would be cheaper (and safer).

  3. bro you gonna get robbed.

dont do it you will obviously cause attention.

    i recommend a plane.

you will get there in a week .

plan on doing a FULL tune up before you go,

gas is really going to be a pain in the ***

  4. One of my friends asked me this kind of questions before,I found helpful here.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  5. I have driven from San Francisco to Guadalajara a bunch of times.

You have the car permit thing correct except if you have a credit card you can leave that for a deposit, and you do it when you get the sticker (permit) you can either do it before at the consulate or at the boarder.  (it is better to do it at the consulate, cuz it's a ***** if you forgot some paper and you are already at the boarder)

The tolls from Nogales to GDL are about 126 USD each way.

And unless you plan to drive 24/7 you will not make it in 2.5 days.  You are right that on some roads you can go very fast.  (up to probably 100 MPH easy.)  But on others you will be going 35 to 40 MPH (like between Mazatlan and Tepic there is no toll road yet,  so you re on the "libre" .

By the time you pay for everything, Gas, tolls, insurance, hotel, permits wear and tear on your car ,  its cheaper to fly.

It not as dangerous as everyone says ,  we have Hummers , BMW and all kinds of nice cars here and they are not stolen by Narcos......

But is is cheaper, easier, and faster to fly, If you want to save some money and see the country side , and are not in a hurry , take the bus
