In a couple of days I am going on a fairly large ferry to Kangaroo Island. The forecast says there will be wind speeds of about 22 knots. I'm not the best sea traveller, so how smooth do you think the journey will be?

  1. Winds of 22 knots depends of where you are and the size of the vessel.  That is aprox. 25 mph winds.  In protected waters you will have some white caps and a close choppy waves.  In more open waer you will get some rolling seas.  On a large ferry you may get some rolling motion but should not be bad. Do not concentrate on any one point for too long, stay busy, drink plenty of water and enjoy your trip.

  2. Small craft warnings> So they will be 3 to 5 ' seas> If the ferry is 100' than not a issue>Take you sea sick pill the night before then another 1 the next morning>eat & have fun>If you do get sick make sure the wind is on your back>

  3. Not too bad. Depends which way tides are going etc. 22knots is about 20mph so nothing major. In a large ferry, should be pretty smooth but bare in mind you will get gusts of wind so may not be perfect.
