Question:

How run power to an amplifier in my Monte Carlo?

The problem I have run into is that i cannot find a place to run power from the battery, through the firewall and into my interior to connect to the amp. If anyone has any clue where I can specifically run the wire or drill a hole that is easy access your information would be helpful.

  1. You will need a simple DC volt meter...

Measure for 12 volts at the car fuse panel with one lead of the meter or test lamp grounded to the car frame.

Your looking for a 15 or a 20 amp fused circuit and also goes off when the key of the car is turned off.

You can see how things are la bled and such when you look at the fuse panel inside the car.

Sometimes there is an accessory space where there is no fuse, you can use that by installing a fuse in the blank spot and connecting the positive lead of your amp there, on the load side of the fuse.

Try not to pick a circuit with too much stuff on it like the cigarette lighter circuit because the fuse may blow out when the new power amp is 'on' and you also use the lighter at the same time. Using the spare circuit is the way to go.

Otherwise, you need to ad a circuit with an in-line fuse and fuse holder. Find a good switched connection point and ad this additional fuse there. The ground side of the new power amp power can just be bolted to the car frame anywhere.

    It is easy...

  2. well look around under the dash and in the firewall for a grommet that might already be there if you cant find one drill a hole and stick your wire through.

  3. The place to run it through the firewall is on the passenger side, its down low, and was a PITA to get the wire through.

Its actually easier to access under the car then from the top.

    (for the 2000-2007 monte carlo's)

Yeah there is already a large rubber seal there for the wiring harness going into the car, you can cut a small slit into the rubber and run the wiring through it.

  4. your best bet is to drill a hole in the firewall between the fender and master cylinder.  Make sure you use a rubber grommet afterwards so the edges won't cut the power wire!  That is where you will have the most space to work with in the interior of the car after you drill through from the outside.  It's gonna be tough but it will look clean when it's done!
