How safe are street transformers?

I have to walk near street transformers daily and get tempted to touch them. Even thopugh there is a fence around them, some dont have. Will i get a shock if i do touch them?

They are safe if you are just walking pass them and no you wont get shocked but at the same you need not fool with them....

There was a programme on the Discovery channel in 1999 about the safety of transformers and if they had any long term ill effects on humans.

They found out and showed that 60- 65 % of people living near Transformers and high emf generating machines eventually developed cancers of different kinds !

You may not get a shock.Several times sparks come out and fall down which can cause burn injuries.Better steer clear of them.
