Hiya, I'm thinking about moving to a place in Islington called Cyrus street, but I'm quite worried about crime, specifically burgulary. Is there alot of burulary around that area? Its near Old Street, Barbican, and Angel tube stations, kinda in the middle. Thanks!

  1. You're very lucky - that's a great place to be moving to!

If you look at Cyrus Street on a map, the areas above it - Angel, Finsbury, etc - are more dangerous because they're poorer areas with high crime rates. However, the areas below it - Old St, Barbican, Farringdon - are bustling city areas mostly made up of offices, so they're always busy.

Burgulary rates are are always high in London - it's a big city with a massive population. If you keep your new home secure, you will have few problems. Invest in decent locks, burglar alarms and so on. You could even get a mini-safe for your jewellery, cash cards, etc.

With regard to personal safety, as with anywhere in London, just keep your wits about you. Don't walk around late at night unless you really have to and obviously don't carry cash / phone / iPod in full view of everyone.

Safety aside, it's a great area. For starters, you're near Shoreditch, Brick Lane, a bus ride from the West End, the Barbican Centre, and hundreds of great bars and restaurants. Have fun!
