How safe is hot air ballooning?

I want to take my husband hot air ballooning, but he has a problem with heights. I need to do something adventurous. Unless there is something else someone can suggest to do to get our heart beating faster, but the air balloon ride sounds great.

  1. I used to have difficulty with heights, and a balloon ride was no problem.  I'm not sure how to explain it, but it's not the same as looking off the roof of a building, or the edge of a bridge.  As far as safety is concerned, it's probably one of the safest ways to get in the air.  The only think that can go wrong, if the weather is good, is maybe running out of fuel.  Then you float gently to Earth.  Perhaps power lines could get in the way, but that would be pretty tough to do.  Most balloon flights are in the middle of nowhere.  I'm sure you'll have fun.

  2. If hubby has a problem with heights, then hot air balloons are probably not an ideal adventure...  How about something a bit closer to the ground, like learning to ride a motorcycle?  It's about the closest thing you can do to flying, while keeping both wheels on the ground.
