How safe is it for women truckers?

Hi, Can you tell me how safe it is for women truckers out there? I'm thinking of starting out expediting in a van....Is there any other women that could give me some tips? And do you use a Garmin or maps? Thanks alot for any tips.

  1. Driving a van to make deliveries is no different than being on the road in a passenger car. But you have to watch where you stop just like you usually would. On overnight trips if you sleep in the van, keep doors locked and be alert to what is going on around you. Get a cell phone that has good coverage. If the area is not well known to you, a Garmin will help more than a map. A map might show you a road that is one-way the wrong way. The Garmin would know that and have you go around. Still, I wouldn't travel without a map, too, since it is easier to hold one up and ask for directions than the Garmin.


  2. "Huba" has very sound advice. But to add and answer of safety it is the same as it is with men. However,women have been trucking for years and proved to be strong.

       In earlier years the main danger was with/from male truckers using them as a game and running/scarring them off the road.

    Happily I say that the men have grown up and accepted female truckers sharing the road.
