I am travelling to Argentina in July and would like to extend my trip into Brazil. We are planning to drive to Iguazu from BA. How safe is it to drive from there to the coast through brazil and then along the coast back to Argentina?

  1. i'd be careful

if you're gonna pass through south brazil...specifically Paraná... the roads SUCK!

my parents had to drive on the shoulder because it was better than the real road!

lol... but 4 the most part ur ok

  2. Really its far better not to drive and save yourself the hassle. You have to be a good and experienced driver to drive in South America, and the Iguazu route has the added problem of thieves looking to rob people of merchandise they might have bought, as theres plenty of duty free shopping in Iguazu and Paraguay which is just a bridge crossing from the town of Iguazu. On the whole I wouldnt advise it. If air travel is too expensive try to go by tourist bus with a reputable company.

  3. The big problem is "passing" in 2-lane roads. Due to slow truck

traffic, you will need to perform passing maneuvers, and watch

for others passing in the opposite direction. It requires patience,

driving technique, and a car with a big engine helps. Errors

during passing are the most common cause of fatal accidents

    in Brazil.

Robberies are rare but possible in the immediate area around

the border, as some robbers like to target smugglers carrying

    expensive merchandise.
