Question:

How safe is it to drive without an airbag?

My Civic's airbag does not work. I don't drive on highways, just on local streets. I don't even drive on expressways. I can't afford a new car, and I don't think somebody can fix the airbag, for a cheap price anyways. Do you think it's safe to drive without an airbag?

  1. In my opinion, no but that is just my opinion and if you cant afford to have it fixed then you should start saving enough money to at least have the vehicles computer scanned to see just what is wrong with it, it might be something very simple.

  2. Sure it is safe... As long as you don't have an accident and you wear your seatbelt.. People ride motorcycles all the time and live to ride another day, so having a couple thousand pound cage of steel around you with a seatbelt probably isn't that bad... But I'd rather have an airbag if at all possible considering it COULD save your life.... Most accidents happen at 30MPH or less and within 5 miles of home... They CAN easily be fatal.

  3. There was a time when no one had airbags - because they weren't around until the early 1990's on most cars.  It safe to drive a car without airbags as long as you don't wreck it....  Air bags significantly reduce the chance of serious injury in a collision, but they aren't "magic" - you can still be severely injured or killed in a crash even if you do have an airbag.

As far as your insurance company is concerned, it's probably not safe to drive the car with the airbag not functioning properly - if you get into an accident and are injured there's a good chance they may refuse to pay a claim for your personal injuries etc. if you wreck your car with the airbag system not functioning before the crash.

It's might seem expensive initially to replace the airbag, but it's WAY cheaper to pay the $800-$1000 to get the airbag system fixed than to have to pay $1000s of dollars in medical bills if the insurance company denies your claim.

  4. its as safe as you are. how many decades did we drive without airbags, sure people were killed without them and they are being killed with them.

  5. If you're wearing a proper lap and shoulder belt, the odds are in YOUR favor if you keep your speeds down, don't follow too close, and act mature, but do you?
