Don't see why you would have a problem with this, i used to live in a converted loft and the summer nights were unbarable so i had no option.

My little sis has the same problem now shes in there and has had no probs with the 20" fan we have.

If its the electricity your bothered about you need to try a RCD Plug:

its safe as long as it isnt pluged into a power strip that is almost full

I've never heard of problems with running fans all night when the weather is so hot.

if you are concerned about it I suggest you have a GFI  safety outlet installed where you plug in the fan.

No problem at all, the assumption being that you will be nearby, also. I think of just one thing: I would grab a couple of heavy books and secure the base of the fan so it wouldn't slowly try to walk off the table and make a clatter that would scare you half you death at quarter of three in the morning, and then you wouldn't be able to get back to sleep again, so make sure the base of the fan is fixed securely in one place, and you should be all set to enjoy a pleasant evening with a nice breeze.
