My friend and I are planning a trip around Europe in about a year. We are planning to travel on two Honda Ruckus/Zoomer scooters (249 cc) which require motorcycle licenses and can go up to 120km/h. We want to start from Kiev, Ukraine and travel through Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Spain and travel back through southern Europe countries. Is it safe to travel without any support, sleep in tents whenever possible to save money? What are the things we should go through and think about before going on the trip?

  1. Sounds perfect! People go around-the-world journeys with any kind of motorcycles and scooters. Look, I'm from South America, travelled many places with different motorbikes, and in comparison european people are really well educated about us. Much better!

First at all, knock a lot of doors; maybe you can finantial help for people who want publicity of their companies in other countries. In a scooter is a good idea. In two, perfect.

Go again to ther Honda dealer of your country, and ask about help and tips of the Worldwide Honda Owners Club. Hope that exists. Go and ask in every place you see people driving a motorbike if they know tips and places to go.

Remember: our two wheels world is a special one. Experience.

Just take care in the big cities, specially in latin countries. Yellow and red lights, stop signals, are not a warrantee...

Buy a specialized gel for your tires; the one I use is PJ-1 and is fantastic: never a flat tire even practicing Enduro in the Atacama Desert and Los Andes Mountains, and travelling around Patagonia in a very hot days. It's a kind of "mousse", the same used many years in the Paris-Dakar and other off-road raid competitions.

European campings are far away from the big cities, so I recommend you to drop everything at the camping (be aware of thieves), and visit places with only one of your machines.

Ask your local Honda dealer if your scooters use the same spare parts than from other countries (i.e. air, oil and petrol filters, tires, spark plugs and whatever). Try to go no more than 100/110km/h because you will take a lot of extra kilos.

    Don't forget the insurance.

A basic list: Cup, Tea Bags, Spoon, Creamer powder, Sugar sachets,

first Aid Kit, Small Camera tripod, Digital Camera, Handy wipes, Diary,

Tent, Bike Waterproofs, Sleeping bag, GPS, Bike Locks, Neck Buff / riding scarf, mosquito repellant, lightweight shoes, small torch, Pen and Paper, website stickers, toothbrush, toothpaste, CamelPak, Deodorant, Jumper, 2 T-Shirts

    Enjoy a lot!

  2. watch the movie hostel 1st

bike/scooter has nothing to do with it, i wouldn't do it, even though i know it was only a movie lol
