  1. Only trained professionals are given dangerous jobs at a zoo. Volunteers do the dirty grunt work in safe environments.

  2. First of all, I'm sorry, but I doubt you'll be working with the lions if you're just a volunteer. If you /were/ however, up close and personal with lions, as long as you don't do anything irrational or stupid and throw yourself at them or anything  like that, chances are you'd be fine.

  3. safe  the lions are tamed!!!  duh!!!!!!!!!

  4. If you volunteer at a zoo you will get to see and do lot's of cool things.

Some of the docents (adult volunteers) at the zoo I used to work at even got to help bottle feed and take care of one of our orangutan infants while it's mother was sick.  They also got to do overnight watches when our elephants were close to giving birth.

Volunteering at a zoo is fun and educational, but you will not be playing with dangerous animals.

I started volunteering in the children's zoo when I was 14 and worked my way up from there.  It took 12 years but I got to see and do some amazing things and even ended up handling elephants for 6 years!

  5. believe me, no zoo would put you in danger, they don't want to be liable for that!
