Question:

How safe is the Metro at night? Hollywood to Long Beach?

We'll be travelling from Hollywood down to Long Beach on the Metro late at night. I've heard such areas like Compton etc are a little 'unsavoury'. Would this generally be a safe trip?

  1. The cars are patrolled by security as are the stations.  I took the exact same trip earlier this year.  There were some odd characters who boarded the train, but they were only noticeable because the cars were rather deserted.  We were riding back from a show so we had a group about the same size as yours.  I'd only be nervous if I were riding by myself.  Try to sit up in one of the front cars.

  2. Are you male or female? To be honest I never feel safe on the Blue Line even during the day. There are Metro security but I am not sure I can count on them for safety.

  3. The red line is okay but the blue definitely goes through a rough area.  I used to take it in the early evening, but I don't think you can count on the metro police to ever be there.

  4. if you are on the trains you should be safe they are well patrolled

by the deputy sheriff and fare inspectors

(I'm assume you are talking about use Metro rail and the Red Line from

    Hollywood to Long beach?

    and not local transit?

what time would it be at?

as Metro rail shuts down around midnight

as the last connecting train from Hollywood  that will connect to

the Blue Line leaves  Hollywood at 12:20am

would you be leaving later then this time?

  5. I think it's fine.  The blue line does go THROUGH some rough areas, but the trains themselves have never been known to have problems as long as you don't get off.  As long as there are a few of you and you aren't wearing flashy jewelry or anything, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
