How safe is the neighborhood around The Metro in Chicago?

I'll likely be going to a show at The Metro this fall. The band playing is pretty popular, and I am planning on camping out outside the venue to get a good spot in line. Would it be safe to camp out overnight outside The Metro? How safe is the area?

  1. Fairly safe except there are tons of dunks due to all the bars and they can sometimes be real *******. There have been known to be one or two or 20 fights thanks to all of the bars. And where there are drunks there are people trying to separate them from their money.  As for camping outside, I wouldn't do it. One, I don;'t think the city or the metro permits it and, two, where are you going to go to the bathroom? They frown on pissing in the alley. Besides, if you don't have a ticket already, there;s no guarantee they will be selling them at the door if they are "pretty popular". and there is no seating, so there';s no reason to stand in line early to "get a good seat". Just show up a couple of hours before the show and wait in line with everyone else. If you get there a few hours early, you'll be near the front. Trust me, I see it all the time; I hang out at the bar next door and see everyone waiting in line.

  2. There is no point in staying there overnight.  I've seen many popular bands there and have never had a problem getting in and finding a good place to stand inside.

  3. Well ordinarily it's a great neighborhood but overnight on a major street like Clark? Anything can happen. I'm not so sure The Metro allows camping out, anyway.

  4. Perfectly safe.
