How safe is well water? Is it going to ruin my clothes or my hair & skin...?

Ok, so we just moved into a house that has public-sewer water also known as well water. We are so broke from buying all of our furniture and appliances and didn't even realize that we needed to buy a filter for the water.

Also, i already know we need a filter and it's about 400 dollars so we're going to have to wait a couple weeks or so until we can get that.

Do you know if this is safe to shower in? I know absolutely NOTHING about well water. Any advise would be helpful...

  1. You will be able to shower and stuff, but well water usually has really hard water so it will make you feel slimy when trying to rinse the shampoo and conditioner  out of your hair, and the soap of your body. The water usually smells really bad too. Get your self a really good moisturizing lotion because hard water can dry out your skin. And get some leave in conditioner for your hair.

  2. I've been showering in well water my whole life and I'm perfectly fine. I've heard it does a little damage to your hair, but I really can't tell a difference between mine and any other person's. I never drink the water, though. I buy bottled water or jugs of water to keep in the fridge.

  3. It's safe too drink and shower etc. It stains everything the toilet mostly.

It tastes like metal.  If you don't have a pump filter I don't recommend drinking it.
