How safe would Bangkok be for an 18 year old male alone? Obviously, crime can happen anywhere, but on the whole, how does it compare to somewhere like New York, or London? I know there's lots of scams, etc, but I've been to Tunisia and Egypt a couple of times so I have a good idea of how they work and know how to avoid them - quite simply, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Just something to bare in mind in regards to safety, I have absolutely no interest what so ever in participating in any illicit or seedy activities, I'm going to Thailand to visit Thailand.

Thanks for any advice.

  1. Read http://www.bangkokscams.com and that is all you need to be aware of. If you are aware of the scams, the Bangkok is a very safe place.

  2. Funny...last night I just watched "The Beach" with Leonardo Di Caprio...

You are right crime can happen anywhere, but in those areas I guess you could say there isnt as much law enforcement watching your every god d**n move so its more loose, you should be fine just be careful and watch yourself, who you are around, and make sure you know who you can trust. Me sister just got back from spain and italy and her friend almost got **** pick pocketed out of her purse. People there are sneaky so watch yourself

  3. you sound like you have your head on straight - you should be fine - remember, there are many expats living here and they send their kids to school and there are plenty of teenage and younger children roaming around, going about their daily lives - - I think a bright guy like you will have a great time - - and - - it is a relatively easy place for travelers as well - - thai people are generally quite helpful and friendly.. have fun

  4. The best way to see Thailand is with a Thai girl, but the biggest danger is that you will fall in love with her

  5. its should be alrite as long as u dont use too much jelwery or expensive stuff that can show u have money a lot with u.

and u should learn bit of basic thai word cause they love it.

  6. Honestly?  How stupid do you get when you are drunk?

If you don't drink much, and you have not had problems the other places you have been, you will be at no greater risk here.

If you are here to visit Thailand as you say, then it should be relatively safe.  I'd avoid going to the three southern-most provinces, but anywhere else would be fine.

Just use common sense.  Cheers, and have a good trip.

  7. Very unsafe You may lose your virginity

  8. The only thing you should be worried about is getting your wallet emptied by the local girls, bar girl or other...

LOL....."have absolutely no interest what so ever in participating in any illicit or seedy activities".....I had a THB100 for everytime I haver heard that one..

Had a friend of mine come to Thailand for the first time and was saying similar things in emails.....he did well...lasted 7 hours in Thailand before the first bar girl ended up in the hotel room

  9. i just returned  frm  a visit  to  thailand.  i  found it  to  b  v  safe.

    the  people  r  v friendly

ofcourse  ,  there  were  1 or 2 incidents  - (a  tuk  tuk  driver  tried  hard  to  gt  us  to  visit  a garment  shop. &  another   offered  to  take  us  to  the cabaret)  but  quite  harmless.  we  just  refused  politely  but  firmly

be  careful  of  credit  card  frauds

  10. Extremely safe.

I have visited Thailand twice, and the only 'scams' that I encountered was tuk-tuk and taxi drivers trying to get you to the tailor or bar where they get the most commission for bringing customers to.PLEASE let me know what other scams you know of in Thailand. i have not encountered any.

If you misbehave, there will be consequences. (As it will beanywheree else in the world.) The problem is that when you are in USA and get out of order, you are in your own country, surrounded by your own people, with similar customs and who might look more kindly on yourbehaviorr. As long as you behave, you will most probably be safer in Thailand than in your own country.

  11. well, Thailand is very safe to travel in term of crime for tourist. especially compare with NY, London and those countries you have been. However, keep in you mind one thing "Don't believe anyone on the road who would come to you and offer you something 'special' such as cheap jewelry, erotic show without extra charged. nice Thai girl in catalog" Then you would be safe... about accommodation, try not too save cost. some backpacker is not safe for your stuff and yourself. if possible try 2-3 stars hotel which got reasonable price is surely better security. some people save about $10-20 to stay in back packer place but lost camera which cost $100- $200.... that's really classic drama. before go to Thailand... try this website... http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Bangko... got a lot of interesting information. http://www.discovery-thailand.com  G'luck

  12. Well your visiting some fairly poor areas, but so is Egypt. As long as you keep your head up and play it smart there are only a few regions in the world that you really shouldn't visit.

  13. Dont' worry at all, it is an extremely safe city.  Other answers mentioned that there is not much law enforcement so its loose and all - while that is true, you don't hv to worry about street muggings and things like that because its just so uncommon over there.  Yea... u might get pickpocketed or watever, but thats nothing compared to being shot in a gestation robbery (sth that occurs frequently the the good old US of A).

  14. the ladyboys may attack

  15. be humble and friendly(polite) , but don't get drunk or you find yourself being wipe out clean. Thai people is friendly...
