Question:

How scary is tubing?

I think I've finally mustered up enough courage to go water tubing (with a family-friend that lives on a lake). I'm a major whimp, so this is a huge accomplishment for me. Also, I never learned how to swim, so that makes it a lot scarier. Does anyone have any tips on how to make it more enjoyable/less scary? Please, convince me that it'll be alright!

  1. Obviously wear a life jacket.

Next, be sure you work out a system with who ever is driving the boat. (Thumbs up for...I'm having fun, go faster, thumbs down for go slower, the "cut throat" for I'm done, circle around and save me!!)

It feels like you are going really fast on the water. Start of slow and you will have a blast.

  2. Tubin is awesome...actually i have been at the lake camping for the past week and been tubin alot lately...it's not scary at all! Make sure you lean though so you won't fall off entirely fast...lol

  3. It's really a lot of fun and not scary at all.  The problem is that you can't swim, and that's not a good scenario which is something you should consider.  If you slip off of the tube, you may have a problem if it slips away from your reach.   I know this isn't what you want to hear, but your safety is the main concern, right?

Many public swimming pools have swimming classes.  Maybe it would be something you would enjoy....then go tubing and have a blast.

  4. go solo the first time, because you will have a lot less chance off falling off. I would have them drive the boat slow and strait and then intentionally roll off the raft. It wont hurt and it will give you confidence to go bigger at higher speeds. And if you get to scared, just close your eyes and pretend your doin somethin else

  5. Tubing is for people who cant do any other water sport,  I think that the key to not being scared is to fall off early in the day, then you realize that it doesnt hurt it all gravy from there on out

  6. Wear a life vest, and tell the driver not to go too fast.  Tubing is really fun if you are going the right speed, but if you go too fast it can be really scary.  One time I went like almost fifty miles an hour and it was fun, but too scary.  I ended up falling off, and my bathing suit almost fell off.  It was a blast.  My cousins ride on two different tubes at the same time, and then they try to push each other off while going like forty mph.  There is no danger as long as you wear a life vest, so just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.  : )

  7. I went water tubing once, on my sisters wedding day... I wasn't too keen on the idea but my dad said it was heaps of fun... They went way too fast for me and it scared me to death... But I didn't come off and I'm still alive so that's gotta count for something?

Want my advice, start real slow and build up the speed when your comfortable with it...

    Life jacket is a must.

You know the funniest thing about that day was that afterward (for about 4hrs) I couldn't lift my arms more than about 6inches up from my side, someone had to help me dress for the wedding and when we had hit the beach on the tubs...My dad had to help me unlock my hands from the grip I had on the handles because I couldn't let go...!!!!!

    Be safe and have fun...

  8. Hey!  First make sure your life vest fits snugly, and jump in so you have confidence in its ability to keep you afloat. A good vest has at least 3 or 4 adjustable straps.

Second, let 'em know its your first time and to keep it slow. You'll start out behind the boat, and wait till it's moving steadily (not still accelerating) to start moving around. The wake looks imposing, but don't worry, you'll float right over it. Once you're able to cross the wake without being nervous, give them the thumbs up to speed up.   The ride will eventually end, eitherby flipping upside down or something. The most important thing to remember with any towed watersport is to let go when you've had enough.

  9. omg of course you will be fine! Its a blast! For sure where a life jacket and if you will be out a long time then some boardshorts are always good to have! Have fun!

  10. yes, the life vest is a good idea. the first time i went tubing i was 4 or 5. and im a big wimp. I have loved tubing ever since then. It mostly depends on the driver. i have had so many different drivers pull me and almost all of them are diffrent so make sure you pick a driver that you feel comfortable with (make sure its not someone who will say "oh yeah ill make sure ill go real slow" then once you get on they take of full speed.) even if you do fall off don't worry most of the time it doesn't hurt.(I've never been hurt before) Anyway start off really slow like to where your only going about 5 miles an hour then when you feel comfortable with that you can tell you driver to speed up and you just go on from there. If you like you can always have another person on the tube with you. most tubes are made with four hand things. me and my twin sister do it all the time.

    have fun and God bless

  11. if you dont want it to be scary, then go slower. if you want to be scared, go faster. my suggestion for you is to start of slow and get used to it and if your feeling brave, then ask the driver to speed up. if not, then chill out at a slower speed. and wear a vest!!!
