Question:

How screwed up is this?

Today is the day that I feel no sorrow for my colleague. I feel sorrow for the loss of life due to ignorance. Read on...

I work with this individual who took it upon herself to adopt a very sweet puppy about 5 months ago. This was "private adoption" as one of our other employees dog had a litter of adorable German Shepard Pit Bull mix that had a faces to melt your heart.

That was 5 months ago. As time goes on I would hear updates on the puppy's progress and nothing was positive. She chewed things, she dug things she was uncontrollable. When I asked about training, there was none. What I heard was " I had to beat her to calm down! " As heart breaking as that is to hear and as terrible as this dog's behavior was reported in all honesty. This is not a case of a bad dog, but a lazy owner who thought a cute puppy could grow up into a perfectly behaved dog with no intervention, training or care other than dog food and a yard. It was pure neglect. Dogs brains are only ounces in size. They have NO idea what is expected of them, they need to be trained with priase and love. They eventually get what they are suppose to do. Not a dog left in the back yard who has no longer wanted due to "being big now".

I came into work last week and was told by the owner that "I took the dog in." I thought she meant the vet as we discussed about temperaments often calm down after alteration. She said "no I took her to the shelter". "My back yard is all dug up, she is chewing everything and she had to do".

This may sound harsh, but the truth is that we have over 200 employees at my office. Nobody was asked if they wanted this diamond in the rough. A simple email could of been sent with a click on the keyboard to everyone and if they aren't online they get paged with the email, but instead nothing was done. Complete neglect and laziness.

Today I walk by my colleagues desk to find her in tears. I couldn't help but ask is everything ok? She said she called the shelter to see if anyone adopted her dog. What did she find out?

TODAY THE DOG WAS EUTHANIZED... LEARN FROM THIS p**s POOR EXCUSE OF A DOG OWNER... AND THINK ABOUT THE LIFE THIS POOR ANIMAL HAD AND HOW IT ENDED DUE TO SHEAR LAZINESS. SPAY AND NUETER YOUR PETS... OR THEY COULD END UP LIKE THS ONE.. CREMATED.

I am so angry I can't look at my secretary the same.......

  1. You're right she was not a responsible dog owner.  My heart goes out for that poor puppy.

  2. So why didn't you take the dog in if you thought it was a "diamond in the rough?"

  3. Ugh, more idiot pet owners. Hey, I'm glad your secretary was in tears too, and I don't even know her! People like her irritate me.

  4. THANK-YOU ANONYMOUS!! i totally agree!

  5. that is cruel to beat a poor puppy because he's acting normally!!!!! what i wonder is why people take in puppies, because they are just too adorable, if they know they are going to be too lazy to properly care for the growing and teething puppy, why bother, leave the puppy for someone who will be patient, understanding, firm and gentle, and loving to them. she ought to cry because the poor puppy got euthanized for acting like any normal puppy would. And why would the pet shelter euthanize the puppy because the owner thought it was out of control?! the dog was perfectly fine, the owner should be punished for having the dog euthanized because of her lack of sensitivity. It may be common for this to happen, but when i have to hear about a PUPPY, that has barely lived,  die because of the owner, i just...

  6. Ugh, I am SO sorry. I can't say it any better than the first two answers though!

  7. im pretty sure your rant will be deleted shortly, but i agree. people think they can get a dog and ignore it and only take it out when its convenient for them, but thats not how it works.

as for your colleague, i hope she learned something, and if she was in tears, im sure she did.

i wouldnt hold it over her too hard, she will be beating herself up over it more than you could.

  8. We ought to euthanize fewer dogs and more idiots.

  9. It's actually...pretty normal.

People very often take on the responsibility of a pet without considering the long-term consequences.  Spaying and nuetering your pet is important...but I doubt it would have stopped this woman from being irresponsible.  It would have delayed it until she visited a pet store, or took in a stray...but some people just aren't cut out to be pet owners.

  10. Oh I wish I hadn't read this post! I feel so bad I LOVE dogs and and HATE it when people think that puppies are going to grow up and be perfectly trained without the owner training them. I used to be friends with a girl who did something similar but she gave her puppy away (thank god)!  Oh it makes me so sad to hear this. I have to find a happy post!

    Bye!
