If someone installed a trial version of a business/personal keylogger on their computer, can the company who is offering the software keep track of the keystrokes and screenshots as well?

  1. Screenshots I'm not sure of, but keystrokes, yeah they could. And many anti-spyware programs ignore commercial keyloggers, regarding them as not a threat. Try using Super AntiSpyware if you think such keyloggers may be on your personal computer.

  2. Yes...

If you are getting something that is NOT legit, or has a trojan installed by another party (or a disgruntled employee), it could EASILY be sent to multiple locations from the computer it is installed on.

The only way you could be sure is by sniffing the traffic leaving the computer to see where it is headed to.  Even that has a vulnerability because I could have written the program to store all the keys logged for a month or so and THEN have it send when you thought it was safe (kind of like a time bomb).

People that write key loggers usually are the type that have tendencies to be corruptible, so I would be VERY cautious of any program.  What one are you thinking about using?  I know of quite a few that work pretty darn good.

The best out there is a Hardware device that you plug into the computer via USB and then plug the keyboard into that.  It never sends the information, just stores it until you go back and get it!

EDIT - Little Wolf, even screen shots could be sent to multiple locations.  THey are just mid to low quality JPGs!
