How (see details below), can we prevent pedestrians from getting hit in crosswalks?

Here in L.A. we have a system that catches drivers when they blow through a red light. There are cameras on top of the traffic

lights that take the car's photo when that happens.

It shows the car and the license plate. GOTCHA!

Now, another problem that we have here is people (at the

intersection), who don't bother to look to the side when they're

making a left-hand turn. They watch for the cars coming at them, and as soon as there is an opening, they go for it. Of

course, if there is a person directly in their path, they're screwed...

This is on the news (traffic fatality), once or twice a month-for the same reason.

Now, since there is technology that IDs red-light runners, why not for these drivers, too? Something that would sense them making the turn before it's safe to do so-then it reacts by sending a signal to the driver's dashboard. A bright light. A beep. Whatever. This could even be installed in the car itself.

Skip the mechanism on the traffic light.

  1. Well in a serious manner...You cant really prevent it unless you have cops patrolling constantly just for ignorant drivers.

In a non serious manner...Don't be a pedestrian, just drive everywhere, and don't worry about the pollution.

  2. the ped has to assume some responsibility for their own safety.
