Question:

How sensitive is a dog's tail?

Need to figure out if my puppy has to go to the vet in the morning or not.

My neice was holding him and kneeled down to put him on the ground, and her knee ended up hitting him in the tail. He yelped real loud, but he looks like he's okay now.

Do I bring him to the vet in the morning or will it be okay?

  1. It's just like getting an elbow to the stomach: hurts when it happens, might sting for a bit, but definately not life threatening.

  2. I have no idea how sensitive a dog's tail is, but I just have to say, this is a great question!!! It is most different from any question I have ever answered. This was a breath of fresh air to reply to and I actually had a little Jackiechi that happened to and his little tail swell a little in the middle, but he was fine and we did not have any other problems out of him about it. So hopefully the little guy is okay. God bless.

  3. Your dog will be fine. If you're gently holding the tail and your dog whines, barks, nips, or shies away then you might want to take him to the vet.

  4. He's probably fine. If the tail looks swollen, bruised, or bent you should definitely call the vet. Otherwise I wouldn't worry.

  5. The tail is one of the most sensative things on a dog.  Though I doubt if it did any harmful damnage.  It just hurt like h***.

  6. He's probably fine... the tail is an extension of the spine, so yes it's sensitive and hurts when stepped on etc.  Watch for any swelling or discomfort, but chances are it was just an OUCH! with no harm done.

This answer will also depend on the size of the dog!  A great dane is going to be less hurt than a Mini Pincher.  What breed is the pup?
