I know it sounds weird, but would it be risky to dye my pet rats' fur a different colour?

  1. dont do it please!

  2. i would consult a vet or a local pet store (of even ask them for a breeder to contact?) for a more precise answer.

I would try a watered down food dye maybe if anything?

  3. I'd use food coloring, kool-aid, or the kind of dye made especially for pets just to be safe. Alot of hair products people use can cause burns on the scalp and might accidentally get in the poor creature's mouth.

  4. I dont know that it would hurt there skin but it would be hard to get all the dye out and it might be toxic if they l**k some of what was remaining. If I was you I wouldnt do it.

  5. Well, rats have "tough" skin for a lack of a better word, but I honestly don't know how safe it would be to dye your rats fur, especially if the dyes are commercial dyes that contain chemicals which could be toxic to rats. Food coloring would be a better option, but even that I am not so sure would be a great idea. If it were me, I probably would hold off on the dye job and leave your rat's fur natural, afterall, animals aren't really meant to have pink fur lol. Hope this info helps and goodluck!

  6. Very sensitive.

I would HIGHLY recommend not doing it. They clean themselves so often, and dye comes out each time liquid unlocks it. It may poison them.

  7. I want to give my little girl, Zara, a pink fohawk :]

Let me know what you get from this please

I've been thinking about it, and maybe if you didn't dye close to their skin, just maybe up on the tips, and washed it out very well, it wouldn't bother them too much?
