Question:

How serious is my kidney infection?

About two weeks ago I started having back pains and went to the doctor. They took a urine sample and told me they'd call me back with the results but, they never did. Yesterday I went back and they told me I definitely have a kidney infection and have for quite a while. Now I am taking antibiotics, but it I end up throwing up most of what I take...

How serious would this be since it's been untreated for two weeks?

  1. First off, yiou need to call the doctor and see what they recommend about keeping down the antibiotics.

Kidney infections CAN be serious.  If they damage the kidneys you will never heal.  As you get older the damage will increase, until you have to be on dialysis.

Call the doctor NOW and find out what to do to keep the antibiotics down.

  2. They can get very serious. My last kidney infection put me in the hospital for a few days. Then the anti-biotics they sent me home with made me sicker than the infection.

Just be careful, and if you are not getting better, go back to the doctor or go to the hospital

  3. If you are vomiting your medication, you might not be treating the infection. You have to go to the doctor and ask for something else. If you don't treat a kidney infection you are looking at the possibility of renal failure.
