I've always thought that if I'm driving, and some car bumps behind my car, but very lightly like only 1-3 mph.

Should I always stop and get out of my car just to check the back?

Also, what are the most important things to do if you get into a car accident?

  1. If you can both get out and talk to the other driver and still move your vehicle, do so.  If you cannot start/move your vehicle or you are injured too badly to do so, do not move it.  never hold up traffic if you can help it.

if you have a light bump to the back of your car, signal that the other driver should pull over and then both of you should pull over.  Trade registration info and names and addresses and you may need to call the police to file a report so that the other person's insurance will pay for the damage.  the other person might say that they will handle it, but chances are quite high that they will just blow you off and you won't have proof that they did it.

  2. If there is no other traffic behind you and you feel it safe to get out of the car...motion or ask the other driver to please pull over to the side of the road. Have cellphone handy in case you have to call for help in case the other driver was drunk and you definitely don't want them driving anymore. Check your car. If you feel all is okay...then politely thank them for stopping and let them go. If not okay, call the police on 911 and if you have a camera phone start taking pictures! If you are in an accident...call the police first and see if the others in your car are safe. see if the other car is safe. Start writing down whatever you remember may have happened during the accident. Pull to the side of the road where it is safe. Start to get driver information ready like insurance cards, registration cards and drivers license info. If other driver leaves try to get info from get the license plate and make of car. If there are witnesses...start getting their info... this is just the start.

  3. you should only stop in the middle of traffic if 1 you have no choice or

2 somebody is hurt otherwise pull over to the side of the road and deal with your issues be safe and always try to avoid road rage

  4. stop the car !!

DO NOT MOVE THAT CAR TILL POLICE ARRIVE

THE POSTION OF THE CAR/S CAN OFTEN SHOW WHO WAS AT FAULT RIGHT OFF

    call for police assistance

give the 911 operator a number of people involved and any injuries

take photos if you carry a camera

get all the details of the other driver and their car

have your driver's license, registration and insurance papers ready for police when they arrive

    call your insurance company/agent

call home and let family know there's been an accident and any injury so that they don't see it on tv,hear about it on radio or see your car on the wrecker's hook and go berserk

OLDEST trick in the world is for 2 drivers to sandwich you.

one stops suddenly and the other comes up from behind and either trys to rob you or working with the driver you hit, takes you to court and cashes in big time

insurance companies would rather settle than fight so don't expect them to protect you

call your lawyer and update them on the situation

    DO NOT WAIT !!

  5. i agree with crazy boy i had a case where a woman went up the back of me we exchanged mobiles so i rang hers there on the spot and she had given me the wrong no but with me blocking her and nowhere 2 go she had 2 give me the right 1

  6. Yes, you should always stop.  If there's damage (even just a tiny scratch), you could get in a heck of a lot more trouble if you just drive away.

  7. Pull over to the side. NEVER STOP IN THE LANE IF YOU CAN STILL DRIVE THE VEHICLE.

If in an accident, always take down other drivers insurance info, drivers license # and license plates. It it looks like more than $500 damage, call the police so they can make a report

  8. I would stop middle of traffic to get driver license plate. Never know the driver could take off. Then pull to the side to exchange information.
