Question:

How short is a "crew cut" for JROTC purposes

My son thinks he may want to join JROTC in school this this year. He knows he has to get a "crew cut". I tell him I think it means .5" or less on top and .25" or less on the sides. His idea is it is more like 1-1.5" on top and .5-.75" on the side.

I think he's in for a real shock, but that's maybe a good thing. He's always shooting his pellet rifle and pistol (avid target shooter) and only watches the Military Channel. He wants to join the military after graduation (he's going to be a Freshman) and I honestly doubt he could handle the dicipline. I think his view of the military is skewd, but then again, he just turned 14.

How long can shaggie keep his hair? Thanks!

  1. I can recall over 20 some odd years when I joined the U.S Army and went thru basic training  I had shoulder length hair and when I got it whacked off I was nearly bald when the barber got done with me

  2. It all depends on what JROTC he's joining every branch has there own regulations as far as hair cuts go. Air Force is 1/4" on the sides with a blend to about and 2" on the top. You'd have to double check though, it's been awhile since I was active duty.

  3. when i was in jrotc we were told that your hair cannot touch your ears, or the back of your collar, and there needs to be at least a 2 finger wide space between your bangs and your eyebrows.

  4. Forget about inches and what not. As long as your hair does not pass the ears or touch the ears you are fine. It cannot be shaggy either.
