Question:

How should I address my cover letter?

I know you are supposed to personalize the cover letter to the hiring manager or HR rep. I know the persons name because they are listed as a contact for the job posting. But it's an unusual name so I don't know whether they are male or female. So I don't know if I should use Mr. or Ms.

Is it alright to just say use the first and last name. Dear John Doe - for example.

Any other ideas?

  1. Yes, use the first name, or address it to the company and don't use a line for 'Dear.'

  2. It is perfectly fine to use just the name. Below I have given some links to resume examples that may give you some good additional ideas.
