Question:

How should I ask my parents to purchase me a cell phone?

I really want one. I'm 13 and I'm pretty active. I have some reasons why I want one, but I need more, because I have to explain to my Dad why I should get one at this time. The only thing is; I want it to have texting. All my friends have texting and I am constantly asked for my number, but I have to tell them my home or nothing at all. My friends are shy and they don't like leaving voicemails and such. Whenever I go somewhere, my Dad tells me to take my Mom's cell phone with me, but then she doesn't have one for herself. What am I going to do? I have to convince my Dad that I am responsible, and that I can totally handle this (and I can, I know it.) So please, give me ideas. He is a hard man to convince, but I've got to try.

  1. If you go on a family plan with your mom it will only cast $9.99 extra a month.  Since you may not text but you still get charged for people texting you it would be wise for your dad to include some texting in the rate plan. (you want to help him out in not getting a big bill.)  Having a cell phone is good for safety reasons.  Not too many places have pay phones anymore and as you go places/practices without your parents it is good security.  If you don't get a cell phone then tey emailing to friends.  You can send messages to their cell phones from your computer.

  2. Convince him by telling him you'll be using the cellphone in a reasonable way. Get a prepaid phone.

  3. Maybe if you had some money to help pay for your bill, that would convince your father.  Your dad really doesn't want to pay just so you can type to other people on a phone.  I don't have a special text plan on my phone.  That means each time I send AND RECEIVE a text message, it costs me 10 cents.  So if you and your friends are texting back and forth, it can add up quickly. Your dad may not want to pay for that.

  4. If he can't afford it, don't try. Get one when you can afford to buy one or start saving money for it. You need to pay for the monthly fees too.

  5. SINCE UR 13 U DONT NEED LIKE A MILLION MINUTES 2 TALK ON DA PHONE N U DONT NEED 2 B TEXTING 24/7 EITHER. I THINK U SHOULD TELL UR DAD DAT UR BEGGINING 2 MATURE INTO A YOUNG ADULT AND THERE MIGHT BE TIMES WHEN U WANT TO GO SOMEWHERE AFTER SKOOL WITH UR FRIENDS OR EVEN STAY TO DO HOMEWORK... TELL HIM DAT U DONT HAVE MANY FRIENDS WITH CELL PHONES TO LET U BORROW SO ITS HARD 2 GET A HOLD OF HIM OR UR MOM. CONVINCE HIM INTO GETTING U A TEMPORARY PRE PAID PHONE 4 A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO SHOW HIM DAT U JUST WONT GO OFF WAISTING ALL UR MINUTES DEN WAIT A WHILE N ASK HIM FOR AN UPDATED PHONE WITH A SERVICE PLAN
