How should I begin this?

Ok so I'm this crazy teenager who has this odd compassionate, empathetic feeling in regards to Vietnam Veterans and wants to put a plaque commemerating the 156 of the 245 Medal of Honour Recipients who pothumesly receieved the medal, in DC of course.

My dream is expensive, big, difficult and requires loads of effort. But hey I want to be a lobbyist for Veteran's affairs (Even Crazier!)

I was told by the creator of a different org. that set up a plaque to honour the Veterans who died post-war due to injuries suffered there to contact someone from VVA, but I can't figure out what to say. I was going to ask the representative if my idea is possible.

Ideas? I don't know how much it would cost etc.

  1. Seconding the others thoughts.  I will add that it's some relief that Viet Vets were at last given the status of participating in a "War" -- something that took years to accomplish.

By the way, did you know that although there are 55,000 names on the beautiful Vietnam War Memorial, that since the war ended over 65,000 Viet Vets have taken their own lives, making suicide the #1 cause of death among veterans of that awful part of our history?

Not poking fun at your question: that's how much it cost.

  2. Take your idea to the local VFW and they will help you start.

  3. I think it's a wonderful idea.  I would start with your local VFW http://www.vfw.org/ and see if someone there could help you get in contact with the people you need to talk to.  Once you have the contacts, you can begin fundraising.

(Hint: Many of the motorcycle clubs have close connections to Vietnam vets and their causes.  You might want to talk with some of them to help with fundraising events.)

    Great idea!  Good luck!
