Question:

How should I care for my guinea pig's abscess?

My guinea pig has an abscess in her mouth. I have taken her to the vet and they prescribed antibiotics for her. The antibiotics have been working, but the abscess is moving out of her mouth. I just want to know if I should scrape out the pus moving its way out or if I should just let nature run its course. The abscess is coming out between her top front incisors and I really don't want to hurt her. I would just like to know if it would be wise to scrape the pus moving out of her mouth. The last thing I want to do is take her back to the vet and have her ger surgery. Any comment other than taking her to the vet would be really appreciated. Just remember I have already taken her to the vet for antibiotics.

  1. Having just taken her to the Vet is no excuse not to take her back, or at least give the Vet a call. Is the abscess spreading? Or the abscess is just draining fluid? The Vet will give you advice over the phone for free if she was just in there to see him. Call the Vet.
