How should I come about being a CSI?

Should I start out as maybe a police officer or lawyer and work my way up? Im pretty sure I want to have experience in the law before I go into CSI. ^_^

In the U.S., CSI guys aren't cops.  If you want to do snooping, you can be promoted to detective.  CSI guys are lab technicians and very rarely visit a crime scene.  You may shows where cops take evidence and snap pictures.  That evidence goes to the CSI guys at the lab.  There are different kinds of lab guys such as chemists, guys that have studied physics etc.
