  1. Micro-adjust the 'standard' screen settings up and down in a really dark room. Go in '5#' blocks up and down to get a feel for the range of effect. I've had to bump up the brightness and reduce the "picture' settings to overcome external reflections (room light reflections) on my flat glass-crt based tv,(the 200lb 34in model). "picture' is the word that SONY uses to describe "contrast',in their onscreen menu. I've also had to reduce the color setting by a 1/3rd.-from their established baseline. If you are on cable-beware the picture inaccuracies caused by amplifiers. 'Ghosting' was my biggest complaint. Even the so called 'digital signals' fell pray to this effect. It's best to adjust your screen to the dvd input for a baseline. Set all your other inputs their and adjust them from that.

  2. Get a calibration DVD. That is the only way to even come close. If you really want to do it right hire someone to come out and calibrate your set for you.
