How do you pick what college to do to and how do they award scholarship money?

Is there any difference based on the Division the college is?

  1. your guidance counelor should know that..

  2. with a letter

  3. Send a tape of some of your best plays to the coaching staff at the schools with a letter stating you are interested in playing for their program and to consider you for a spot.  Be very polite.

  4. Well Jess I went through the same thing you did. I wanted to play volleyball in college and i wasn't sure what college i wanted to go to or how to get in or how to even get them to notice me because i went to such a small school that was division 6 and didn't matter much. So in the end i applied to all the colleges that interested me then contacted their athletic director and had them send a scout to my next game and that's how i got on the team, at UW Whitewater, and if that doesn't work then i would write volleyball as an extracurricular activity on you're application to your college and then be a walk on to the team so you'll practice with the team and the coach will decide if they like you or not then you may become part of the team that way. But to choose the college i would definitely do college visits and see which campuses you like the most and definitely check out the cafeteria's cuz that was my most important area and when you look at what division their team is in the lower the division the harder it is to get on the team just keep that in mind. lol hope this helps!

  5. the 1st thing you need to do is narrow down your priorities.  decide the things that are important to you, the volleyball program, location, academics, etc.  This should help you narrow down to a location.  There is a HUGE difference between div one and 2, for example, but that is not to say that good div 2 teams couldn't compete against mediocre div one teams so don't discount schools.  Volleyball offices get hundreds of letters, and they won't read them.  What you need to do is send a video.  In the beginning of the tape, a special thing you can do to get the recruiter to remember your tape is take 2 minutes to personally introduce yourself.  Tell them your name and your background.  This however should be really BRIEF.  Then put some footage on.  Anyone can put together a highlight tape of all their greatest memories in their lives, so put a good game on, and a few highlights on at the end.  Chances are the coaches won't have time to watch the whole thing, especially if it's too long.  Include on the tape information on your height, standing reach, block jump touch and approach touch.

The follow up is really important.  Email the coach, or call and touch base with them once you think they have received your dvd.  This will familiarize them with you and sort of put a person to your tape.  Lastly, don't just pick one school.  Chances are for every 5 schools, only 1 responds so make copies and get the voice out there as much as possible.  Afterall, too many choices are better than none.  Hope that helps, GOOD LUCK!

  6. send them a video of you playing...

  7. First thing you should do is to send a personal letter to the coach of the schools you are interested in.  It wouldn't hurt for your high school or club coach to put a call into the coach as well for those schools you are really interested in.

In terms of picking the college, talk with your coach who should be able to give you an honest evaluation of your talent and where you might be able to play in college.  Don't waste your time or energy trying to be recruited by a top D I school if you don't have that kind of talent.

Scholarship money is awarded differently by different schools.  Some have total athletic scholarships, some have grant money based on financial need.  Once you've narrowed down your search, you can get this information from the coaches you are dealing with.

My advice is to pick schools that are right for you - then worry about picking the right volleyball program.  Unless you are a superstar, athletic scholarships are tough to come by.  Getting a quality education should be your first priority.

    Good Luck.

  8. Yes there is a difference in the Division's, from my understanding Only D 1 and 2 schools give out  sports scholarships.  I went to a d3 shcool and they don't give out sports scholarship money,  then I transfered to a d2 school and received two scholarships in sports.  But to let them know that you are interested send in a letter to the coach or a tape of you playing.  Meet the coach and tour the campus.  Find out everything you need to know before you sign anything
