How should I decorate my new bedroom?

I'm moving downstairs into the spare room, which is painted a dull, yellow-beige color. And the furniture is a little dated, too. What color scheme or decorating things can I buy to make the room a little less blahhhh. I pretty much like all colors, but not pink.

  1. pick  three colors: one base and two accent colors.  for example beige base and navy and red for accents.  keep the wall color light so the room looks larger.  the most important part of painting a room is prepping the walls:  fill in holes with spackling paste, sand the walls and prime them so the new final coat looks really good.

A room is really spiffed up with crown molding if ceilings are high enough.  Also replace base molding (at the floor) if you're putting in new flooring.  I recommend ceramic tiling as it's easier to clean and you can always put down an area rug for warmth.

If you're keeping existing carpeting, shampoo it really well and let it dry thoroughly before putting furniture back in the room.

dated furniture can be refinished by stripping real wood and staining it, neither very light nor very dark.

some new curtains and bedding that go with the color scheme and you're good to go. I like plaids or stripes for guys, and these can provide the color for the wall paint.

  2. A beach/surfing style room is easy to work with when the furniture is dated.  It gives you a cottage style.  Paint your walls a bright color such as green.  Then add fun tropical accessories.  You can get some inspiration from http://www.thehawaiianhome.com

  3. i have a pale lilac and white and it is so relaxing and comfy, or you could go for peachy colour.
