How should I dispose of my deceased pet rat?

My poor little girl passed away yesterday, and seeing as how my boyfriend is too upset to deal with the details, I'm stuck figuring out what to do with the body. Mass cremation at my vet is $66, and I can't bury her in the yard since we're renting. I wouldn't be bothered by the cost, but we have been spending alot of money trying to deal with her chronic myco. :(

Awwww, that's so sad! :( If you bury her nice and deep no one will know your poor rattie is resting peacefully underground.

You should get a large pot, fill it with dirt and the bury your rat there.  Then you can plant a plant on top.  That way you can keep the rat with you forever and have a monument in its memory, or when you move into a more permanent home, you can move the plant into your yard.

Edit:

I have done this.  As long as you have it in the middle of the dirt, there is no smell.  If you are worried, you could encase it in a ball of clumping kitty litter.  This will absorb any possible smell.  But as long as it is throughly buried, there should be no smell.

bury her at a park or in the forest somewhere.  no body will really be watching in a forest.  leave a flower by her.  sorry your rattie died.

edit: I like her idea better V  but .. would that give off odor? have she tried?

sorry your pet died , but you said it died yesterday and you still have it. YUCK. Throw it in a dumpster wrap it up good first

Do you live around your mother or father still?  You could try burying her at your family's house.  Or perhaps you have a friend that would allow you to use their side yard as a cemetery.

If you're renting an apartment or house, do you have any woods?  Like back behind your house?  You could possible go back there and bury her.  Toss aside some leaves, bury her, and cover it back up.  No one would notice then.

It's really hard dealing with a passed on pet.  The last thing you want to do, but what it may come down to is making a neat coffin for her in a cardboard box, making her all comfortable, and laying her in the trash can.  ):
