Summary:

[1] How do I learn winter highway travel without pissing off 100 zillion drivers around me. I feel as if I need to slowly speed up and test the brakes every now and then to get my learning curve.

[2] What speeds should I do? I'd freak out the first time if I felt that 30 was too fast even though people were doing 60 fine.

[3] What settings should I use? 2-wheel, 4-wheel (part or full time)

[4] What about freezing rain on the highway and dropping temps.?

I'm in freakin' northern New England and can't drive for S**t.

  1. Here is what I have learned in Ohio

    1. Forget the other drivers. You can laugh at them when they slide on the snow and ice.

    2. When you think you are driving at a safe speed, slow down some.

    3. 4wheel drive is best. If you have a part-time 4wd system run it in 4HI when the roads are slick. Do not use it on dry roads. You will kill your U-joints..if you are lucky. You will do even more damage if you aren't.  Get at the least some studded tires. They are much better than all seasons. Chains are even better, but you must go slow. Then again, if you need chains, you won't be going fast anyways.

    4. If the roads are bad try to stay off them if you can. Leave yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Otherwise, slow down. And be careful.

  2. just slow down and have good tires on but if you want to practice find a empty parking lot that is snow covered and go get the feel for the auto and practice skids and how to handle them go the speed you feel comfortable with and forget about the other people if there is alot of snow on the road use 4 wheel and dont go over 40 and freezing rain stay off the roads salt trucks even have a hard time going and cars just make it worse

  3. Very S...l....o.....w....l.........y!!!!!!!! As for pissin ppl off....4get about em cuz who's gonna be in trouble if you have a wreck...if your goin too slow then.....give 'em the finger and tell em to go around.

  4. See the winter driving video of my provided source.  It

won't hurt to see the off-road features and military applications either.  Over 2 million sold in 20 Nations.

It actually helps if you can't drive for " ...S**t"

  5. Most important: GET WINTER TIRES!!!, all seasons are worthless in the winter, its not just the tread design thats important but winter tires use a different rubber compound that stays pliable in cold weather, gives you better traction at cold temperatures even if the roads are dry.
