Question:

How should I fix the hole in my surfboard?

Actually, there are three, but the other two are really small.

I'm not too sure how they got there, but they are.

The biggest one is 1 1/2" (inches) X 3/4"

The next one is 1/2" X 2/3"

And the last one is 1/4" X 1/4"

This might be important. The bottom of the board (where the holes are) is green.

Please, if you know what to do and how to do it, help me out?

Thanks much!

  1. 1)Set board with ding facing up and level. 2)Remove any loose pieces and sheets of glass that aren't fully secured to the foam. 3)Sand with 160 grit sandpaper about 2 inches around the hole. This is done to rough up the surface and make the resin hold easier. 4)Cut a piece of fiberglass cloth that is about double the circumference of the ding).  5)Mix resin with catalyst and pour in the hole 6)Optionally, if you have some scrap pieces of polyurethane foam, you can do the following: Use a surform to generate a mass of shredded foam. Then mix this shredded material in with the batch of resin you are using to fill the hole. This will create a matrix less prone to cracking as well being a little bit lighter, (i.e. good if you are filling a large ding.  7)Lay the cloth over this.

8)When dry, sand until flush with rocker.  9)Apply last (light) coat of resin by painting it on.

  2. wow um, if i were you I'd get a new board..or maybe take it to the shop.

  3. Well you can fix small areas with Ding All, or Suncure. But I'm thinking that the 'green' area is were water got underneath the glass and caused some delamination. Before you try to repair it yourself, take it to a shaper and ask for a repair estimate. You might be able to get it professionally repaired for 100 bucks.
