Question:

How should I go about getting individual poems published?

What medium is best to approach, a poetry monthly, a local newspaper or events magazine, a free circular etc etc? Any tips welcome!

  1. This is by no means the only way, but when I first started I picked up a copy of The Poet's Market 1995 (I think)...the 2009 edition may be out. You can get submission guidelines to hundreds-and-hundreds of literary journals and magazines. It is mostly about persistence and the ability to handle rejection.

  2. Well I did it by magazine, stayed mostly in the "Teen Christian" thing so I wouldn't have my poetry in any filthy magazines.

    so that's a good way to go, I started with 5 poems (edited by a friend who is a writer) each to like 5 different magazines and waited. I got turned down a few times but after a while I got accepted and some of the magazine editors asked me to send them more of my stuff. I never tried the local paper but that could be a good way to go as well!
