Question:

How should I go about quitting my job immediately?

It's too stressful, I'm bored of the job, and I got married 2 months ago but never get to see my husband.

I am a shift manager at a fast food restaurant. My GM is off today, but I'm scheduled to work. Should I call her so she can get my shifts covered and then drop off my uniforms and keys at the store when it opens with a letter? That's my only idea. I figure she'll probably just fire me anyways, because I'm not going to work tonight no matter what she says.

  1. that might be a good idea to you now but think of what's gonna happen next. you'll be looking for another job, one with a better schedule and perhaps better benefits. your new employer could check your work background and your chances of getting the job would be slim because you walked out on your previous job. hand in your resignation letter and discuss with your manager the possibility of converting your leave credits (vacation/sick leave) into your 2 weeks notice. that way, you give your current employer some time to hire a replacement then part ways amicably. who knows? your GM just might offer you the day shift once she knows that your not happy with your current situation.

  2. I know it's hard but try to give a two week notice. Don't worry about them talking you into to staying. Lie if you have to...say you're moving out of town, whatever. But you should give a two week notice because you don't want to burn any bridges. You never know when you'll need the GM for a reference or anything else. Life is funny..it has a lot of twists and turns and you may later regret not giving a two-week's.

  3. do you need them for a reference?  I'd put my two weeks in if you do need the reference.  Otherwise I guess do what you want.  But it isn't very responsible!  but you know that.  I think you already made your mind up anyway. lol...........

  4. You would be best off to ask to be cut back to part-time immediately.  Then if they can't agree to it, you haven't quit and they haven't fired you.  If they do agree to it then you can give notice next week.  That is what I did at one place and it didn't hurt my resume that way.  I said I could only work Mon and Tues and they said that wasn't going to work for them.  The nice thing about food service is there are more than 40 hours of operation so you can have some say about how much and when you can work.

You can also say you need to quit over health reasons and that they are personal. I also quit a job over real health concerns, but as far as they are concerned whether they are real or not are non of their business.

  5. Put in your two weeks once you have another job lined up.  Jobs are scarce and nothing ends the honeymoon phase like money woes!

Once you have another place to go they won't be able to talk you out of it.

    Good Luck!!!

  6. If you are going to continue working in a different job, then find a job first b/4 quitting.  It's not your responsibility to find replacements.  Workers continually get sick or quit on a moments notice.  Call her now and tell her you have to resign because of personal problems. And that you feel bad for putting her in a difficult position.  Thank her for the opportunity you had, and bring in the keys etc. ASAP
