Question:

How should I go about "weaning" my body from the breast pump?

I nursed my baby until she was 3 months, then she went to a bottle and I pumped. Now, she gets formula and breast milk, so I'm only pumping about 4-5 times per day. She's almost 6 months old now, and I am ready to stop pumping, but not sure how to go about "stopping". I know I can't go cold turkey, so can anyone tell me what to do, and how long will it take, to get to a point where I don't have to pump anymore?

  1. leave it to you husband

  2. All you need to do is slow down on your pumping. Start slowly. Don't pump as much milk. Then gradually your breast will no longer produce milk.

  3. You wean from the pump the same basic way you wean the baby. (Only difference being that the pump won't protest!)  Do it as gradually as you are able.  If you get engorged or in pain, you're going too fast  Try dropping one pumping session every 3-5 days, or shortening each session by a few minutes each day.  Expect it to take 2-3 weeks to complete the process.

  4. i just pumped less each time for a few days, then only enough to not feel full or engoeged, then i just stopped, took me a week

  5. Drop one pumping session every 2-3 days, and shorten a second pumping per day by 5 min. per day.
