How should I have the room set up for my Cocktail Party?

It's basically a large room that's about 20 * 40 feet, or something similar.

Right now there's a corner computer desk, a big screen Tv, a treadmill in front of the tv, 3 couches: one person, two person, and three person.

Basically there is one round table (avg size) that could be in the centre. Do I need other tall tables elsewhere, i.e. around the room? Any other suggestions? (I will get the treadmill out of the way and cover up the computer)

  1. I would say take out 1 of the smaller couches, leave the others, that way people arent forced to stand if they get tired.

I would put out some pretty candles, if you can get really pretty candle holders that would be excellent, no overpowering scent, just something like Jasmine that is relaxing.

If there is any way to not have the lights bright that would be good, not bar dark, just not flourescent bright...hope that makes sense.

Keeping it simple is good, I wouldnt overpower the room wit lots of decorations.

Fresh flowers would be nice in 2 places inthe room.

  2. I would move the couches to the edge of the room, maybe with a few smaller tables, then depending on how many people are coming get some taller tables for people to chat at and have a place to set their drinks. Is there going to be an actual dinner? If not, I'm not sure the big table is necessary. If you are just going to be serving appetizers and pick up foods, I would just have smaller tables throughout.

  3. I would put one more table in the room waist high that you could turn into a little martini bar, other then that I think it is fine,
