How should I interpret this Spanish sentence?

I have to complete Spanish sentences with the correct form of a verb that is in parenthesis. There is only one verb in parenthesis per question, but there are two blanks. Does this direction mean to use the exact same form of the verb in both blanks? Or does it mean to use the same verb in both blanks, but can use different forms?

Usa el verbo de la primera oracion, en la segunda oracion.

  1. It says use the verb from the first sentence in the second.

There are two spaces?  Do the verbs all end in se instead of -ar, -er, -ir?

Or are you learning structures with helping verbs, like Haber + past participle (ending in -ado and -ido) or Estar + present participle (ending in -ando or -iendo)?

Need more information to help you out.

email me with the first question, and I'll try to figure it out for you.

  2. The first sentence is:

Ayer, mi familia y yo fuimos____ a comer a un restaurante cubano. Antes, cuando yo era chico, mi familia y yo siempre _(ivamos)___ a comer a la casa de mi abuela. (ir)

and the instructions are wierd because it translates to... Use the verb from the first prayer in the second prayer...(#1 this isn't a prayer #2 y would you use the same verb its completely wrong.)

  3. Same verb, different form on each of the blanks.

Verb form will depend on the context such as space, time, mood, and etcetera.

Ir:  "fuimos" in the first sentence / "ibamos" in the second one.

  4. the first blank is fuimos the second one is ibamos

  5. En la segunda oracion, usa el verbo de la primera oracion. is the correct way of saying it! i speak spanish lol born in puerto rico =) hope my answer helped..

  6. You're right, the first blank would be filled with "fuimos," the verb "ir" in the preterit form. You have to use the preterit in the first sentence because "ayer" (yesterday) denotes a single action on a specified occasion in the past. For the second blank you would still use the verb "ir," however, in this case, since the context of the statement "Antes, cuando yo era chico...siempre" (back when I was a boy...always) denotes habitual, repeated action in the past, the verb has to be conjugated as "íbamos," which is "ir" in the imperfect tense. The indicative past tense of every verb in the Spanish language has two forms - preterit and imperfect - and each is used depending roughly on if the action was a singular, time specific event/sequence of events, or describes weather, time, conditions, habits, age, or other occurrences and states completed over a period of time in the past.
