  1. THere is no hazzle to cross and you will be in Mexico in no time after the international bridge, no matter where you cross (TX, CA, AZ, etc) Consider moving further south from the border towns, since there is not much to see there,  if you have time you should go to Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Monterrey, Copper Canyon, or even down under to Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Merida or Cancun. If you are riding to Baja, then head to Cabo San Lucas Overall Mexico is not an expensive country, with the exception of Mexico City and Cancun and perhaps Cabo, but it will depend on your travel style since there is all types of services for every kind of budget. On the good side of things Gasoline is very cheap compared to the US

  2. Not that expensive. They have oil in Mexico, although it is fleeting. DOn't worry. They'll accept any money, fake or real I guess.

  3. You can expect a line some border points are worse than others. You will need Mexican insurance on your bike and a temp regristration for it as well. There are many buisnesses lined up on the US side that perform all this for you. Id expect ( guess ) a bike to run around $300 total.

You need a photo ID and a smile...............

You will be filling out and receiving a tourist visa.
