I'm in 8th grade, and I think I'm pretty good, but not like a pro or anything. People from 6th, 7th and 8th grade are on the team. the team consists of about 12 people and tryouts are sometime between late August and late September. I know where we'll be trying out. I'm also EXTREMELY nervous and what can I do to prepare for tryouts? Also what can I do to calm myself?

If I make the team, it will be my 1st time making a major club/team.

OH and I'm also taking these 4-day, hour and 15 minute sessions of lessons/camp thing. My instructer people say I'm good and all too.

PLEASE help me I want to make the team!! =\

  1. Okay well thats not important...what's your handicap..?..and one thing that makes or brakes your golf game is your mind.. you need to keep your mind on the game the whole time and don't let ANYONE get under your skin!!!

  2. This is coming from some one who plays high school golf. back when i tried out for the first time, i was so nervous that i could not focus on my shots, i barely made the team and was regretful about my nerves. Last year, i made sure to not be nervous and focus more and shot 74-71-77 and made varsity. Way different from the previous year (88-84-83) I was better but i attribute the good rounds to focusing on each and every shot. It's a cliche, but it works. If i could give any advise it would be focus a lot, shake off your nerves, and play your own game. GOOD LUCK

  3. nerves.

bobby jones said golf is the five inch course between your ears

you have to relax and focus and if your as good as you say you are your play will get you on the team

  4. Okay...

    First off CALM DOWN!!!

Play there as much as you can...then 3 days before tryouts only play at that course (get used to the greens and the course condition) then the day of, hit balls before you tee off

did i mention calm down? its just a couple rounds of golf, treat it like any other and youll be absolutely fine!

  5. How should you prepare ? First of all ,if your " Instructor people" begin to fiddle with more than  slight adjustments to your basic golf swing they will foul you up. Then practice chipping and putting from just off the practice green until you can one putt 7 out of the 10 balls you hit. Now go back a little further and go through the same routine with slightly longer swings to get the rythym of the stroke. Soon you will be hitting half swings  graduating to full swings  with the pitching wedge back to the 6 iron. These are the scoring clubs and your mastery of these will help you make the team. Practice the chipping and putting daily.

  6. I was in the same position you were in during my first golf tryouts....it is not the best feeling in the world....our golf team was very competitive....the coach will look at your scores but focus on being not only a great player but an asset to the team...bring support help the coach out...i am not saying to suck up but show that you will be a team player on and off the course....golf teams are not like other sports teams you are much like a family....we had many players who were much better then i was but i was always kind and a valued part of the team.....i hope this helps....
