How should I save my word document?

I'm trying to save my paper on my flash drive. But I have a problem with typing my work at home using my Microsoft Works Word Processor (old I know) and then opening the document on my school's computer without it coming up in giberish.

Word should be able to read Works Word Processor documents.  Check in the Open File dialog's Files of Type list box.

Don't expect the reverse to be true, although it might be worth it to look in Works' Open dialog also.
