Rather depends on what language it's in - French or English? - and for which subject - language or history for example.

The words mean the responsibility on a person of noble birth to observe the code of behaviour understood by that privilege - that is, support the church, respect ladies and one's superiors, give loyalty to one's overlord and protection to underlings.

You could look at it in a historical context, ie what a knight would have done to fulfil this obligation, or look at a more modern idea, that being part of the First World gives us obligations to those less fortunate in the Third World. Or indeed those less fortunate in our own countries.
