I just bought an ibanez ew20asnt. Is that a good guitar?...now that I have it, what should I do to start playing and actually reading the music. I want to know chords, notes, and basically be able to pick up a piece of music and go at it. For anyone that's experienced or ever taken guitar lessons, how do they start you off? and what's the fastest way to become an advanced player?

  1. The fastest way to become an advanced player is to take lessons.  They start you off with a combination of learning the notes on the fretboard, learning some basic chords, learning to strum, and learning to play easy songs.

  2. Try this web site for free tuition on Guitar playing, it covers electric and acoustic guitar chords. It is excellent and hads everything you want and need to learn for guitar..

    Good luck.

  3. I play electric guitar, and have had lessons.

If you're interested in reading music, they will usually teach you a combination of chords, and the notes on each string. This is what my teacher did.

The fastest way to become an advanced player is to practice twice as hard, and fly through those guitar lessons I guess.

Personally, in my opinion, any ibanez is a good guitar to start with! :)

  4. I teach guitar and would recommend lessons as sometimes bad habits can develop which can restrict you later if you pursue it to advanced level. It is important to learn at least  the basic theory, as it would be like driving without a map. Find a recommended tutor if you can afford it, music shops or guitar stores may be a help. Find out the lesson plan and see if it fits what you want to do. You should learn both rhthym and lead, unless you definitely want to focus on one aspect. This will be open chords and progressions to start and scales, usually diatonic and pentatonic which make up rock and blues music. If you can't afford lessons, find a recommended book. Chris Lopez has written some good books for guitar. As for advanced playing, it's good to be ambitious, but don't expect miracles to begin with, only practice and learning the correct approach will give you the progress you want. Keep testing yourself and good luck, hope this helps.

  5. YouTube has lots of people showing  how to play songs.

  6. start w/acoustic.Why? Bec develop hand strength, better position, dexterity, etc. learn basics acoustic then electric is a breeze. Get cheapo acoustic, steel string, look in pawn/consignment/craigslist,etc. if it doesn't take you're not out $$. Check out 'how to tao of folk" & "Learning music online" good sites, will take you through basics how to hold, practice, tune, hold pick, strum, etc. check around your area bulletin boards, git shops( git center, etc) for others who play acoustic and go see them/watch them(hands) play..they might help out or give direction. Most important: keep at it every day, frustrating as h**l but all of a sudden you'll"get it" Don't quite before the miracle happens
