my mom doesn't know that I'm a vegetarian, and I've only been one for this past week. I ate chicken thigh today, I feel disgusting. it's because my mom made this really fancy chicken with all these spices and herbs, and I couldn't say no and hurt her feelings. I just dont know how to tell her, I feel like she's going to come at me with all these questions and accusations. ideas?

  1. Just tell her you think for right now you are making a self choice to no longer eat meat for the time being. You do realize this means you need protein. Eggs, nuts, peanut butter. You need to eat fruits and vegetables to make sure you stay healthy. =]

  2. eating chickens fine, all other meat i oppose i understand where you are coming from i told my mom the same i was grounded for a day then she just let it go. I say if you want it bad then take the consequence form it.

  3. Well, personally I think you should just be honest and tell her that there's nothing wrong with her food and u don't wanna lose weight or anything but, u just would like not eating meats....

    Good Luck! =D

    SMILE GOD LOVES YOU! =D

  4. Go to the library and pick up some books on vegetarianism and teenagers.  Read the books, get some tips, and show them to your mom.  Tell her you're excited to change your diet and state the reasons.  There's no reason for you to stop eating meat "cold turkey".  :)  Just gradually phase it out, and show your mom all of the health benefits.  Also, make sure that you keep up on supplements and have a balanced diet.  Don't just cut meat out.  That's not enough.  Perhaps you can cook meals with your family, and have a veggie night once a week!  Good luck.

P.S- Shop at the Adventist stores in your area (look in the phone book).  They're much cheaper than natural foods stores.  Also, check out the magazine, "Vegetarian Times".  If you look at the website, there is a starter kit you can download.

  5. y yes you should tell her,

like i know my mother would want to know...because it would suck to force yourself to eat something you dont want to eat! :)

this is how you should say it,

mom.. i came up to the conclusion that i am a vegiatrian...(then tell the reason WHY you are one, or became one)

  6. just tell her. sit her down and tell her all your reasons and why you want to be a vegetarian. it might be hard at first, but evetually you'll both get used to it.

  7. Just say that you beleive eating meat is wrong.

Im shure she will understand if shes a good mom.

  8. Just tell her you don't want to eat meat anymore, and explain to her why.

  9. Just lay it on the line, and tell her, if you don't you will feel worse.

  10. Just tell her.

  11. tell her if you eat meat you will go into some kind of withdrawals

  12. just tell her its not that big a deal.

  13. Just tell her cause its what you believe and she should respect that.

  14. I remember being totally embarrassed to tell people after I went vegetarian seven years ago. I thought they'd react like I was a freak or something, but most were pretty accepting. (The only exceptions were my boss at the time and my 82-year-old grandfather, who still asks me how I stay alive.)

You just have to tell your mom. Tell her your reasons for wanting to be vegetarian. In fact, you may want to tell her the reasons first -- for example, "Mom, you know how much I love animals, right? Well, I just can't eat them anymore."

Provide her with lots of info as well. Pick up books and literature about being vegetarian. Trust me, any Barnes & Noble and lots of libraries have books like "Vegetarianism for Dummies." Ask her to accompany you to a vegetarian restaurant if they have one in your area. (Check out Happy Cow for some suggestions.) And find out if there's a vegetarian group in your area so you two can attend dinners and meet with other people who are in the same boat.

I know how weird it feels to "come out" as a vegetarian, but eventually, people will think nothing of it. Some will even admire your dedication. Plus, then they know why you're refusing certain foods they made, so their feelings won't be hurt. They may even try to find creative ideas for vegetarian cuisine and experiment with those. It could be an interesting challenge for them that opens their mind and adds to their cooking repertoire.

    Anyway, good luck!

  15. just Tell her so she doesn't waste her food

  16. i told my parents im atheist.  just tell your mom, its honestly no big deal.  hope that helps

  17. Tell her nicely, and if she disagrees with it simply say that you feel eating animals is wrong and unhealthy, and that you can actually be more healthy as a vegan or vegetarian
