Question:

How should I tell my mother I she's an alcoholic? Help please?

My mom has a drinking problem and she has for a while.

She has been married 5 times and divorced 5 times and they have failed because she screams and hits whoever she's with when she's drunk.

Sometimes she drives me to my bus stop drunk and if i warn her the previous night to watch her drinking she gets furious and tells me to f*ck off, which should give you a hint at how stubborn she is.

Anyway at all you think I could ease this in? I'm out of ideas and it's already been on too long.

  1. Pick up some pamphlets and leave them around the house, or ask some family members to help you talk to her.

  2. Check this site out for info :http://www.aa.org/lang/en/catalog.cfm?or...

  3. How old are you? If you are a child, tell a trusted relative that you want to come live with them until your mom sobers up.

If you are an adult, get all of her closest friends and family together and do an intervention, with a trip to rehab right after. I am sorry you are in this situation. It is awful

  4. Both my parents have had drinking problems and they both were very upset with me when I told them they were alcoholics. Alcoholics don't want to hear it. Most are in denial. Tell her things when she's sober that really bother you about her when she's drunk. And things about her when she's sober that you appreciate. Or if it comes to it, get help from your family and have an intervention.

  5. My heart goes out to you. You truly have a serious problem to deal with.

Honestly, telling her will not do any good. She knows that she has a problem and she is the only one that can do anything about it. No  matter how much you want to fix it, you can't. What you must do now is take care of YOU. What would be best for you is to try to find someone else to live with. You don't mention a father, but if he is around and a viable alternative, I would suggest talking to him first. Or, how about another relative, like a grandmother or an aunt? Try talking to your school counselor. They can be a great  resource. If you are a minor, they can try to get Children's Protective Services to intervene on your behalf.  Go to the phone book and find the nearest Al-anon meeting to you and GO. It will help you more than you can imagine.Believe me when I tell you that I know how conflicted you can feel in the situation you are in. I have been there. Good luck and God bless!!

  6. I'm sorry to hear that your mom is an alcoholic. The only thing i can suggest is for you and your family to do an intervention on your mom.

Have you ever watched that show on A&E it comes on Monday nights at 9pm over here in California, and i think you should watch it ! i believe at the end they will give you a number and a website you can go on and tell them your situation about your moms alcohol problem, and should tell you what you can do to help.

Most of the time people who suffer from any type of substance abuse or any type of addiction need professional help so they can figure out the core problem. Like i said , i'm very sorry to hear about your mom and that's not cool for her to drive around while being under the influence ! she could really kill herself or an innocent person driving there kids to the bus stop , or anyone else.

    Good luck

  7. This is pretty scary, she is abusing you and it is so dangerous for you to be in the car with her having been drinking.  Is there an adult you can talk to maybe an aunt.  You can't solve your mother's problem unfortunately.  Why not talk to a counselor at school they may be able to help you.  Your mother should be turned into the Child protective agency where you live.  I understand as my mother was also an alcoholic, but, I was helpless in helping her.  Possibly at a sober time you can discuss the dangers of what she is doing, its affect on you and your fears of her driving drunk.  Good Luck to You!!!!!
