Question:

How should I train for high school track?

I'm a 16-year-old, soon-to-be junior, looking to take on sports for the first time ever. I plan to go out for track & field, if possible. However, I'm not athletic in the least, and I'm not sure how to go about training. In case in helps any, I'm currently 4' 11" and my weight stays around 95 - 105 lbs.

Any & all advice would be very helpful, and appreciated. I want to make sure I get an accurate, well rounded workout so I can do well in the upcoming year.

Also, how hard is it to make a track team? I've never tried out for any sports before, so I have no idea what they look for.

  1. about how hard it is, all i can say is it depends on the size of your school. if you have a big school, say 800 or more students, it's going to be rough. if you have less than 800 it might be easier.

about training. well theres a million things you have to do if you're not very athletic.

-take walks/swim laps, which should get you in shape

-tone, especially your legs but also your core is very important. so doing squats and crunches. always keep your stomach tight while you exercise btw. climbing hills or doing stairs is also good.

-start jogging/sprinting, at a stadium nearby or wherever. start jogging and increase your distance day by day. also run in short bursts, very quickly(sprinting).

get a well rounded diet full of whole grains, fiber, and protein. rest up. don't stress out. if it hurts, rest it. push yourself to your limit.

    good luck.
